“What’s happening in Mosul is inhuman. Inhuman is what so many families have suffered and the many humiliations they had to bear. They are sad, far from their homes, they have lost relatives, killed by an absurd violence of which we do not know the culprits. It is up to the institutions and the police to secure the culprits to justice”.

This is the denounce made by mgr. Shlemon Warduni, patriarchal vicar of Baghdad, whom SIR contacted by telephone in Mosul, where he is now visiting the Christian refugees. “The problem is big and serious – states mgr. Warduni in an online interview, at agensir.it –. I have a feeling quite a few people are not doing their duty towards the Christians and the minorities to protect their fundamental rights. We are trying to find a way to bring the Christians back to their homes. Unfortunately, they want to use us as aces to win the game in Iraq. They want to let Christians migrate and grant our youth the opportunity to attend university abroad wherever they like. All this is against human rights, they want to scatter Christians all over the world, except in Iraq. We have been living in this country for thousands of years”. “These Iraqis – he concludes – are entitled to go back to their homes, go to their schools, to their universities, not elsewhere, and not to be left in places where they don’t feel at ease”.
