"This visit in such a difficult time for Iraq is a courageous and providential act. Your presence here is a sharing of our labours, anxieties, hopes and expectations and comforts us. Your solidarity helps us to persevere to stay and hope. We hope others will follow this example."
By these words the bishop of Kirkuk, Mgr. Louis Sako, addressed the delegation of Pax Christi coming to Iraq from France and Italy for a visit of solidarity that arrived in Kirkuk on Sunday, February 17. To tell to Sir is the same Mgr.Sako: "We welcomed the delegation, headed by Mgr. Marc Stenger, president of Pax Christi France at the Chaldean cathedral that was packed with 1500 people. Mgr.Stenger recalled that the purpose of the visit is to express the closeness and solidarity of the French and Italian church to the Iraqi people, particularly Christians." After the mass the delegation met the representatives of the various churches: Assyrians, Syrians Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox. "Yesterday – added Mgr.Sako - the delegation met several Shia and Sunni representatives and members of the board of the city. The Imams and the other Muslim religious representatives recognized that the way to defeat violence is meeting and dialogue ".
