The new publication by the Danish newspaper "Jyllands-Posten" of one of the cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed wearing a bomb-shaped turban, that in 2006 was one of a series of cartoons that, considered offensive to Islam, had aroused protests and anti-Christian violences in several Muslim countries, had a wide echo in Iraq, and for this reason the newborn Christian Council of Kirkuk, temporarily headed by Monsignor Luis Sako, Chaldean Archbishop of the city, has issued its first official statement. It affirms the firm condemnation of the publication and of any offense to religious symbols, Muslims or Christians, an act that can only dig deep divisions between religions and that the Council attributes to the Western gradual loss of spiritual values. The hope is, according to the release, that such an action will not have consequences in Iraq for the good of all its citizens.
