From the prolusion by H.E. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the Permanent Episcopal Council, Rome, September 22 2008
Translated by Baghdadhope
"In the same days of violence in India, and while intolerance and marginalization against Christians were reported in neighboring Pakistan, the too long suffering of Christianity in Iraq, where two more Chaldeans have been killed, has come to the fore again.
They were the weakest links in a chain of violence that began more than four years ago and that saw the death of the same Archbishop of Mosul on last March as part of a "religious cleansing" that is leading to the decimation of a community that five years ago numbered one million faithful, and is now reduced to about half after the flight into neighboring countries."
