In the end they managed to arrive, even if at the last minute. The race against the clock of the small Iraqi delegation, a bit less than 10 people, to attend the WYD in Sydney ended with their attendance of final Mass at the Randwick racecourse. This was disclosed to SIR by mgr. Jibrail Kassab, Chaldean bishop of the eparchy of Oceania and New Zealand. “The group led by father Rayan P. Atto, parish priest of the Church of Mar Qardagh in Erbil, arrived just yesterday morning and went to Randwick straightaway to attend Mass. It was a moment of great happiness, a dream come true”. The Iraqis’ participation in the WYD in Sydney had been uncertain until the very last minute, first because of problems with the release of the entry visas, then because of the cancellation of a stretch of the flight for Australia. Yesterday, it all came to a successful conclusion.
