One of the oldest church in South Iraq is open again. The Chaldean church of Um Al Ahzan (Our Lady of Sorrow) in the city of Al Amarah in the south-eastern governatorate of Maysan, built in 1880 has been recently renewed and a special Mass and a baptism were celebrated on last Sunday by Fr. Imad Aziz Al Banna, the Chaldean responsible of the Diocese of Basra. Even if the number of Christian families living in the area is low (only 18) and notwithstanding the difficulties in Southern provinces a monthly mass and cathechism courses will be held in the church during next summer.
