Yesterday Msgr. Warduni (Baghdad) made an appeal in favour of the Iraqi Christian community that in recent times has been the victim of a wave of violence in the city of Mosul, where four Christian men were killed in cold blood in only four days.
Today the same appeal is repeated by the Chaldean bishop of the city, Msgr. Emile Shimoun Nona who, in an interview with Baghdadhope, confirms the shocking news recalling also that there are no news of another Christian man who has been kidnapped in recent days.
"This wave of killings and kidnappings" says Msgr. Nona "is spreading fear in the community and we know that 15 families have already left the city to safer areas." "We contacted the local and central authorities in Baghdad to find a way out of this tragic situation.*"
Despite everything, however, Msgr. Nona does not stop. After the pastoral visits in four villages near Mosul and in the parishes of the city tomorrow he will meet his flock: "My hope is that these visits will help our people to strengthen their faith and their trust in the church."
Hope. Faith. Trust.
This is the life of Iraqi Christians now. Only this.
* The leaders of Christian communities in Mosul wrote to the governor of Nineveh, Abdul Aziz Athiel An-Nujaifi, and to the chairman of the Council of Niniveh, Muhammad Jabbar Abdallah, expressing their concern and asking to the government authorities to protect all the citizens, but especially Christians who are the weakest and the most peaceful among them.
