“I do not know anything about it. I have no news”. This is how mgr. Francis A. Chullikat, apostolic nuncio to Jordan and Iraq, comments with SIR the news relayed by the newspaper Sabah that the Pope might go to Iraq in mid-May. The newspaper quotes some Iraqi parliamentary sources that have been defined as “well informed”. “Someone may have heard something – the nuncio adds –, but suffice it to say that, when there are such news, the Holy See publishes them ahead of time, at least two months earlier. As far as I know, there is no such plan”. “What has been confirmed instead – he concludes – is that Benedict XVI will meet an official delegation of Chaldean bishops lead by Patriarch Delly, which will take place in Amman, during the apostolic journey starting next Friday”.

According to the Vatican spokeperson during the Papal visit to Jordan "it could be possible for the Pope to mention the Iraqi refugees living in the Hashemite kingdom, among whom many are the Christians, but no specific meeting with some of their representatives is scheduled, at least for now."
