Since the announcement of the new Apostolic Administrator, the faithful of St. Peter Diocese have awaited his arrival in San Diego with anticipation. His Excellency, Mar Shlemun Warduni arrived in San Diego on Saturday afternoon where he was greeted at the airport by a large crowd of faithful and clergy. Afterward, he was brought to St. Peter Cathedral where he was welcomed with a short prayer service. During the service, His Excellency, Mar Bawai Soro spoke of the many accomplishments of Mar Shlemun’s life, priesthood, and episcopacy. Bishop Bawai spoke of the church as a family and welcomed the Apostolic Administrator as sons welcome the coming of their father.
The prayer service then continued with Petitions that were offered in both Chaldean and English by Shamasha Aziz Razoki and Sister Warda Mariam Yousif, WOV.
Following the petitions, His Excellency, Mar Shlemun Warduni spoke of his great joy at being welcomed so warmly by the faithful and clergy of the Diocese. He quoted scripture, emphasizing Jesus’ prayer that, “You love one another as I have loved you.” It is with great hope and optimism that he looks forward to what the future will bring for the Chaldean Church and for St. Peter Diocese.
