“Let's break the wall of silence surrounding the killing of Christians in Mosul and in Iraq”: the appeal was launched by Latin Archbishop of Baghdad Msgr. Jean B. Sleiman, after the latest killing of two Christians in Mosul, between Sunday and Monday. “Christians are murdered in Mosul and the State does nothing – said the archbishop to SIR; - the police in service in the places of attacks and massacres don't see, don't hear, and don't speak”. It is a curtain of silence according to Msgr. Sleiman, strengthened by media, too: “except for one or two cases, media are perfectly silent on these murders”. Fear grips Christians again, who are starting fleeing the country again: “A new exodus is about to begin. Once again, some Christians are sacrificed to pay homage to the radical policies of this country”. From 7 December 2009 to present days, in Mosul, several churches were attacked, a Christian student was kidnapped, murders were about ten, a bomb destroyed a bus taking Christian students to school, and car bombs exploded in several points of the city, where Christians live. Yesterday, the Lineamenta of the next Synod for the Middle East were presented; among other things, the difficult situation of Iraqi Christians was pointed out, without nevertheless talking about persecution.
