Padre Nawzat P. Hanna è stato liberato nella serata di ieri a Baghdad dopo due giorni di sequestro. Ne dà notizia anche il sito della chiesa di Mar Qardagh ad Erbil. Già ieri mons. Shlemon Warduni, vescovo ausiliare di Baghdad, qualche ora prima del rilascio aveva dichiarato al Sir di aver sentito al telefono il sacerdote consigliando "prudenza e saggezza". Nonostante la bella notizia restano le gravi preoccupazioni per la persecuzione in atto contro i cristiani nel Paese. Raggiunto telefonicamente nella diocesi di Kirkurk, l'arcivescovo Louis Sako ha detto al Sir: "A Kirkuk va meglio, ma a Bagdad e a Mosul i cristiani non possono più vivere. Non c' è autorità, non esiste ordine. I terroristi sono dappertutto e controllano molti quartieri. Le notizie di violenza continuano. Hanna è stato il settimo prete rapito a Bagdad e fortunatamente ora è libero. Ma ci sono tanti che hanno dovuto lasciare la patria e sono emigrati all'estero". "Siamo davvero dimenticati. E troppe voci intorno assordano - aggiunge mons. Sako - Noi continuiamo il nostro lavoro per la pace “sebbene sappiamo quanto sia fragile e cerchiamo di costruire e alimentare una cultura di dialogo con l’obiettivo di una vita diversa da quella che stiamo vivendo. Ogni giorno tante famiglie a Bagdad e a Mosul lasciano tutto ciò che posseggono perché sono minacciate, obbligate a uscire della propria città e quindi non possono fare altro che trasferirsi”.

IRAQ: FATHER HANNA FREED; MGR. SAKO (KIRKURK), "CHRISTIANS ARE FORGOTTEN"
Father Nawzat P. Hanna was freed last night in Baghdad after two days’ abduction. The news is also relayed by the website of the church of Mar Qardagh at Erbil. Yesterday, mgr. Shlemon Warduni, auxiliary bishop of Baghdad, a few hours before the release, had stated to SIR that he had spoken on the phone with the priest and had advised to be “cautious and wise”. Despite the good news, serious concern remains for the ongoing persecution of the Christians in the country. Speaking with him over the phone from the diocese of Kirkurk, the archbishop Louis Sako said to SIR: "Things are better in Kirkuk, but the Christians in Baghdad and Mosul have a really hard life. There’s no authority, there’s no order. The terrorists are everywhere, and many districts are under their control. News of violence keep flooding in. Hanna has been the seventh priest abducted in Baghdad, and luckily now he’s free. But many had to leave the country and migrate abroad". "We are really forgotten. And too many voices around are deafening – adds mgr. Sako –. We keep working for peace,“although we know how fragile it is”, and we try to build and fuel a culture of dialogue for a different life to the one we are living. Every day, lots of families in Baghdad and Mosul leave all they have, because they are threatened, forced to leave their cities, and so they can only move out”.

Libero, ma “provato” il sacerdote caldeo rapito a Baghdad
È stato rilasciato ieri dopo tre giorni di prigionia p. Nawzat P. Hanna. Al momento è al sicuro nella capitale, ma porta segni di percosse. Vescovo ausiliare di Baghdad: “Preghiamo perché questi episodi non accadano più e perché il nostro sacerdote trovi il coraggio di rimanere in Iraq, a servire la sua Chiesa”. Porta i segni di percosse il sacerdote caldeo Nawzat P. Hanna, liberato ieri sera a Baghdad dopo tre giorni di prigionia. È stato lo stesso mons. Shlemon Warduni, vescovo ausiliare dei cattolici caldei della capitale, ad andare a prendere il sacerdote in “un luogo della città”, come racconta oggi ad AsiaNews. Il rilascio è avvenuto intorno alle 9.30 di sera. “Quando mi ha visto – riferisce il presule - p. Nawzat mi ha abbracciato forte, piangeva ed era molto scosso; ha poi ringraziato tutti quelli che hanno pregato per lui in questi giorni, la Madonna e il santo della sua parrocchia, Mar Pithion”.Ora il sacerdote sta bene, “si è calmato” e si trova a Baghdad. “Speriamo abbia il coraggio di continuare a servire la Chiesa in Iraq – auspica mons. Warduni – la sua famiglia è già all’estero ma lui aveva scelto di rimanere qui, per rimanere a fianco dei suoi fedeli”. In passato altri sacerdoti rapiti nella capitale sono stati trasferiti o al nord dell’Iraq o all’estero proprio per l’alto rischio legato alla sicurezza.Parroco della chiesa di Mar Pithion, nel quartiere di Baladiyat, p. Nawzat usciva dall’abitazione di un malato, cui era andato a fare visita, quando il 19 maggio scorso è stato fermato da persone “che lo aspettavano”. I sequestratori hanno subito attivato contatti con il Patriarcato caldeo a Baghdad per chiedere un riscatto in denaro, che è stato riferito essere “molto elevato”.“Preghiamo ora – conclude il vescovo – perché questi episodi non avvengano più”.

Free, but “deeply marked” the Chaldean priest kidnapped in Baghdad
Fr. Nawzat P. Hanna was released yesterday after three days in captivity. Currently he is in safe keeping in the capital, but he bares marks of having been beaten. Baghdad’s auxiliary bishop: “Let us pray that these episodes do not happen again and that our priest finds the courage to remain in Iraq, to serve his Church”.
Chaldean priest Nawzat P. Hanna freed yesterday evening in Baghdad after three days of captivity carries the signs of having been beaten. Msgr Shlemon Warduni, auxiliary bishop of the capital’s Chaldean Catholic Church himself went to fetch the priest “in a certain part of the city” as he told AsiaNews today. His release took place at around 9.30 in the evening. “When he saw me – tells the prelate – Fr. Nawzat strongly embraced me, he was in tears and he was deeply tried; he then thanked all of those who had prayed for him in these days, The Virgin and the saint of his parish, Mar Pithion”.
The priest has recovered somewhat, “he has calmed” and he is in Baghdad. “Let us hope that he finds the courage to continue serving the Church in Iraq – augurs msgr. Warduni – his family have already moved abroad but he instead chose to remain with his parishioners”. In the past other priests kidnapped in the capital were subsequently transferred to Northern Iraq or abroad because of the high security risk.
