December 23. “A tragedy in front of which one cannot just keep quiet”.
In his Christmas message, published today in Jerusalem, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Fouad Twal, also spoke of Iraq, defining the situation of the country as “a tragedy in front of which we cannot just keep quiet” and "which affects Iraq as a population, civilisation, heritage and history, sadly becoming a scene of terrorism and violence”. “We are particularly impressed by the destruction of churches and mosques, the abductions and murders of priests and bishops, the devastation and the plundering of houses, as well as the threats and deportations of Christians. It is our deepest wish – concludes Twal – that the population of Iraq may stay in its homeland. We want to pray for the unity of this nation and for it to go back to normal, everywhere”.
