Al ricevimento, oltre alle personalità della Chiesa già presenti alla messa cui si sono aggiunti Mons. Boutrous Moche, vescovo siro cattolico di Mosul e Mons. Avak Assadourian, vescovo armeno ortodosso, hanno accolto Mar Sako il Vice Primo Ministro incaricato delle questioni relative all’energia, Hussain Ibrahim Saleh al-Shahristani, una rappresentante del Vice- Presidente, attualmente Acting President, Dr. Khodair al-Khozaei, il Ministro dell’Ambiente, il cristiano Sargon Lazar Sliwa, un rappresentante del Ministro degli Esteri e numerosi Ambasciatori.Durante il ricevimento sono state trasmesse su grande schermo le immagini più significative dell’inizio pontificato di Papa Francesco mentre il coro della Parrocchia di Nostra Signora Assunta ha eseguito gli inni nazionali del Vaticano e dell’Iraq.

Discorso del Nunzio Apostolico Mons. Giorgio Lingua
Signor Vice Primo Ministro, Sig.ra Rappresentante del Vice-Presidente, Beatitudine, Eccellenze,
Cari colleghi, distinti ospiti,
vi ringrazio per aver accettato l’invito a partecipare a questa festa in cui vogliamo celebrare l’elezione al Pontificato di Papa Francesco.
Negli ultimi due mesi la Santa Sede è stata sotto i riflettori delle televisioni di tutto il mondo, in quanto alcuni eventi di eccezionale rarità si sono verificati: quali la rinuncia di Papa Benedetto XVI, prima volta dopo circa 700 anni, e la nomina di Papa Francesco, per la prima volta nella storia della Chiesa, cioè da 2000 anni, è stato scelto come Vescovo di Roma e Successore dell’Apostolo Pietro un cardinale proveniente da quello che in Europa chiamiamo il nuovo mondo: le Americhe.
Ancor più singolare, se vogliamo - anche questo mai accaduto in 2000 anni di storia -, è stato l’incontro tra due Papi, Benedetto XVI e Francesco, di cui potete ammirare qualche momento nelle immagini che scorrono.
Alla cerimonia di inizio ministero di Papa Francesco l’Iraq era rappresentato dal Ministro dell’Ambiente, On. Sargon Lazar Sliwa, che saluto, il quale ha subito colto l’occasione per invitare il Papa a visitare questa terra che, grazie al nostro Padre Abramo, la pace sia su di lui, è madre delle religioni monoteiste. Lo stesso invito è stato poi ripetuto da S.B. Louis Raphaël I SAKO, anche lui qui presente, nuovo Patriarca della Chiesa caldea.
Proprio la recente installazione come Patriarca di S.B. Louis Raphaël I ha dimostrato i buoni rapporti tra le autorità governative e la Chiesa in questo Paese (parlo a nome della Chiesa cattolica, ma credo che i confratelli delle altre comunità cristiane, che ringrazio sentitamente per la loro presenza, possano confermarlo). Non possiamo che rallegrarci. Il Primo Ministro, Sig. Nouri al-Maliki, e il Presidente del Parlamento, Sig. Al-Nujafi, hanno onorato con la loro contemporanea partecipazione l’installazione del Patriarca, il 6 marzo scorso, esattamente un mese fa, nella Cattedrale caldea di Baghdad, gesto che è stato molto apprezzato. Entrambi i leader politici, prendendo la parola, hanno sottolineato che i cristiani sono una componente costituiva e fondamentale nella costruzione dell’Iraq di ieri e lo devono essere anche in quello di oggi.
Non posso dimenticare, inoltre, la presenza dello stesso Primo Ministro alla riapertura al culto della restaurata Chiesa Saydat al-Najat dopo l’orribile attentato del 31 ottobre 2010. In questa occasione, per la prima volta dal 2003, un Cardinale è venuto da Roma in Iraq, in rappresentanza del Santo Padre, l’Em.mo Card. Leonardo Sandri, Prefetto della Congregazione per le Chiese Orientali.
I cristiani in Iraq aspirano alla pace e sanno che l’Iraq è la loro patria, non ne hanno un’altra. Anche quando, per ben noti e tristi eventi, sono costretti a lasciare il Paese, rimangono attaccati a questa terra che portano sempre nel cuore. Essi sognano, comunque, di ristabilire con i fratelli musulmani rapporti di reciproca fiducia e stima per poter offrire così il loro modesto ma qualificato contributo alla ripresa economica, ma soprattutto morale, del Paese.
Nel primo incontro di Papa Francesco con i diplomatici accreditati presso la Santa Sede, il nuovo Pontefice ha detto: “è importante intensificare il dialogo fra le varie religioni, penso anzitutto a quello con l’Islam, e ho molto apprezzato la presenza, durante la Messa d’inizio del mio ministero, di tante Autorità civili e religiose del mondo islamico”.
Ci auguriamo che l’umile frate di Assisi che aveva incontrato il Sultano al-Malik al Kamil, stabilendo con lui un’amicizia che durò tutta la vita, aiuti il Papa che ha scelto il suo nome in questo cammino di conoscenza e stima reciproca.
Stimo doveroso concludere con un pensiero finale al Presidente della Repubblica, il Sig. Jalal Talabani, che da mesi si trova su un letto di dolore. A lui i nostri migliori auguri di pronta e completa guarigione. L’Iraq ha ancora bisogno del suo contributo. Preghiamo Dio che lo aiuti a ricuperare la salute e possa tornare presto tra di noi.

Honorable Deputy Prime Minister, Honorable Representative of the Vice-President, Beatitude, Excellences,
Dear colleagues and distinguished guests,
I gladly thank you for having accepted the invitation to participate in this festivity in which we want to celebrate the inauguration of the Pontificate of Pope Francis.
Over the past two months, the Holy See has been in the limelight of the world media as some exceptionally rare events have occurred: the renunciation of Pope Benedict XVI (first renunciation after around 700 years), and the election of Pope Francis. For the first time in the history of the Church, that is in 2000 years, a Cardinal who comes from what we, in Europe, call the new world: America, has been chosen as Bishop of Rome and Successor of the Apostle Peter.
Even more striking, as this has also never happened in 2000 years of history, was the historic meeting between two Popes, Benedict XVI and Francis. You can see some images on the screen.
At the ceremony of the inauguration of the Pontificate of Pope Francis, the Republic of Iraq was represented by the Honorable Minister for the Environment, Mr. Sargon Lazar Sliwa, whom I greet, who immediately took the opportunity to invite the Pope to visit Iraq which is the mother of three great monotheistic religions, thanks to our Father Abraham (peace be upon him). H. B. Mar Louis Raphaël I Sako, who is also present here, the new Patriarch of the Chaldean Church, has repeated the same invitation. Indeed, the recent installation ceremony of H.B. Louis Raphaël I as Patriarch has demonstrated the good relationship existing between the government authorities and the Church in this country. (Although I speak in the name of the Catholic Church, I think that the brothers of other Christian communities, whose presence here I gratefully acknowledge, will also confirm that.) We cannot but rejoice. The Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Nouri al-Maliki and the Honorable President of the Parliament, Mr. Usama Al-Nujayfi, honored the ceremony of the installation of the Patriarch on March 6th, exactly one month ago, in the Chaldean Cathedral of Baghdad, with their presence. This gesture has been much appreciated. Both the political leaders in their discourses have underlined that the Christians have been a founding and fundamental component in the construction of Iraq in the past and they also have to be the same in the present.
I cannot forget, likewise, the presence of the same Prime Minister at the re-opening ceremony of the Church of Saydat Al-Najat after the horrible attack on October 31st, 2010. On this occasion, for the first time since 2003, a Cardinal came from Rome to Iraq, His Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, representing the Holy Father.
The Christians in Iraq strive for peace. They know that Iraq is their country. They don't have another one. Even when, for well-known and sad reasons, they are forced to leave this country, they are attached to this land that they keep in their hearts. They dream, however, to reestablish a relationship of mutual trust and respect with their Muslim brothers so as to offer their modest but qualified contribution to the process of economic revival, but above all, to the moral amelioration of the country.
Pope Francis, in the first meeting with the diplomats accredited to the Holy See said: “it is important to intensify dialogue among the various religions, and I am thinking particularly of dialogue with Islam. At the Mass marking the beginning of my ministry, I greatly appreciated the presence of so many civil and religious leaders from the Islamic world.”
We hope that the humble monk of Assisi that met the Sultan Al-Malik Al Kamil and established with him a friendship that lasted a lifetime, helps the Pope, who has chosen his name, on the journey of a better understanding and mutual respect with the Muslim world.
I wish to conclude with a final thought to the Honorable President of the Republic, Mr. Jalal Talabani, who has been bedridden with pains for months. I offer him my best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. We pray God to help him regain his health and return to us soon.

خطاب السفير البابوي
فخامة الوزير، الغبطة ، السيادة،
الاعزاء الزملاء، والضيوف الكرام،
أشكر لكم قبول دعوة المشاركة في هذا الحفل والذي به نود الاحتفال بانتخاب الحبر الاعظم البابا فرنسيس.
على مدى الشهرين الماضيين، كانت الاضواء التلفازية في جميع أنحاء العالم مُسلطة على الكرسي الرسولي، بسبب الاحداث النادرة والاستثنائية التي حدثت: تنحي البابا بندكتوس السادس عشر، وهذه هي المرة الاولى بعد ما يقارب الـ 700 سنة. من ثم تعيين البابا فرنسيس، والذي ولأول مرة بتاريخ الكنيسة، أي من الفي عام، يتم إختيار خليفة لبطرس وأسقف لروما، كاردينال منحدر من ما نسميه في اوربا بالعالم الجديد: الامريكيتين.
وهناك حدث آخر، أكثرُ إثارةً للانتباه، يمكننا تامل الصور الموجودة عنه في لحظات قليلة. وكذلك لم يَقع في الالفي عام المنصرمة، ألا وهو اللقاء بين إثنين من البابوات: بندكتوس السادس عشر وفرنسيس.
العراق كان حاضراً في حفل إبتدأ الخدمة البطرسية للبابا فرنسيس، بمشاركة وزير البيئة: السيد سركون لازار صليوا، والذي إتخذ في فرصة السلام على البابا، مناسبة لدعوة البابا إلى زيارة هذه الارض، هذه الارض التي وبفضل ابينا ابراهيم (عليه السلام) أصبحت أماً للاديان التوحيدية. ومثل هذه الدعوة قد تكررت، لاحقا، من قبل غبطة البطريرك الجديد للكنيسة الكلدانية، لويس روفائيل الاول ساكو، والحاضر ههنا معنا أيضاً.
كما أن التنصيب الذي تم موخراً لغبطة لويس روفائيل الاول كبطريرك، أظهر العلاقات المتينة بين السلطات الحكومية والكنيسة في هذه الارض (أتكلم باسم الكنيسة الكاثوليكية، إلا اني اتوقع أن اخوتي من الكنائس المسيحية الاخرى، وانا ممتن جداً لحضورهم، يمكنهم أن يؤكدوا هذا). لا يسعنا إلا الفرح بهذا. فمشاركة سعادة رئيس الوزراء السيد نوري المالكي، وسعادة رئيس البرلمان السيد أسامة النجيفي في تنصيب البطريرك، وذلك قبل شهر من هذا التاريخ، يوم السادس من آذار الماضي، في الكاتدرائية الكلدانية في بغداد، كانت شرفاً كبيراً، ولفتة ذاتُ محل كبير من التقدير. كلاً من القادة السياسين الاثنين، في كلماتهم حينها، أشاروا إلى أن المسيحيين هم مُكوَّن أساسي وبنَّاء في بناء العراق، سواء في الماضي كما يجب ان يكونوا اليوم.
كما أنني لا استطيع أن أنسى، حضور ذات رئيس الوزراء في إعادة إفتتاح كنيسة سيدة النجاة بعد الهجوم المروع الذي تعرضت له في 31 تشرين الاول 2010. بهذه المناسبة وللمرة الاولى منذ العام 2003، ياتي كاردينال من روما، ممثل للأب الاقدس إلى العراق، الكاردينال ليوناردوا ساندري، رئيس المجمع الحبري للكنائس الشرقية.
المسيحيون في العراق يسعون إلى السلام ويعلمون أن العراق هو وطنهم وليس لهم بلد آخر. حتى ولو كان وبسببِ أحداثٍ معروفة جيداً ومؤلمة، هم مُجبرين على مغادرة البلد، إلا أنهم متعلقين بهذه الارض التي يحملونها في قلوبهم. فهم يحلمون بإعادة بناء علاقات من الثقة المتبادلة والاحترام مع الاخوة المسلمين كيما يستطيعوا أن يقدموا مساهمتهم المتواضعة ولكن المهمة، لتحقيق الانتعاش الاقتصادي، وبشكل أساسي الاخلاقي للبلد.
في اللقاء الاول بين البابا فرنسيس والدبلوماسيين المعتمدين لدى الكرسي الرسولي، ذكر البابا الجديد: "من المهم تعزيز الحوار بين مختلف الاديان المختلفة، واعتقد أنه اولاً وقبل كل ذلك مع الاسلام، وأنا في غاية الامتنان لمشاركة العديد من السلطات المدنية والدينية من العالم الاسلامي، في قداس إبتدأ خدمتي".
نأمل أن الراهب المتواضع من أسيزي، الذي التقي بالسلطان المالك الكامل، مقيماً معه بذلك علاقة صداقة دامت العمر كلهُ، يُساعد البابا الذي إختار اسمه تيمناً به في مسيرة التفاهم والاحترام المتبادل هذه.
إسمحوا لي أن أختتم خطابي بهذه الكلمات الموجهة إلى فخامة رئيس الجمهورية السيد جلال الطالباني، الذي ومنذُ أشهر هو على سرير الالم. أتمنى له أطيب تمنياتنا بالشفاء العاجل والكامل. فالعراق لا يزال بحاجة إلى مساهمته. نصلي إلى الله كيما يساعده على استعادة صحته والعودة عاجلاً فيما بيننا.
