"La situazione sta peggiorando. Gridate con noi che i diritti umani sono calpestati da persone che parlano in nome di Dio ma che non sanno nulla di Lui che è Amore, mentre loro agiscono spinti dal rancore e dall'odio.
Gridate: Oh! Signore, abbi misericordia dell'Uomo."

His Beatitude Patriarch Louis Raphael Card. Sako celebrated the Epiphany mass of this year in the morning of January 6, 2020 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baghdad, commemorating Baptism of Jesus Christ. Despite the current disturbing circumstances in the city, a considerable number of faithful attended it.
In his homily, Patriarch Sako described the critical situation in Iraq and the region as a “volcano about to erupt” due to the upsetting escalation, emotional and impulsive decisions, lacking wisdom and the sense of responsibility.
His Beatitude addressed his words to the wise people around the world to avoid it, because innocent people will be the fuel for such “fire”. He also invited both Christians and Muslims to pray for the decision-makers to act wisely and consider the consequences of their strategies, thoroughly.
The Chaldean Patriarch also shed the light on the importance of Epiphany Feast for Christians by saying: “The baptism of Jesus Christ revealed the extent of God’s love for the human being He created, in order to live a fraternal relationship of love and peace with each other.
Finally, our baptism is nothing but a baptism of love and faith that keeps us as brothers and sisters in a comprehensive fatherly relationship with God, following the example of Jesus Christ “…to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers” (Romans 8: 29).
In closing, let us thank God for everything and implore for the protection of our people, country, and the region.
