Message of Solidarity and Support from the Bishops of the Chaldean Synod
The criticisms and transgressions directed against our Chaldean Church and our nation followed His Beatitude Patriarch Sako’s reaffirmation of our Chaldean ecclesial and national identity, as well as his explanations and clarifications regarding the Book of Jonah. They also come amid the controversy surrounding the Diocese of St. Peter in San Diego, United States, before the truth has been revealed and justice achieved.
We, the bishops of the Chaldean Synod, declare our full support for the positions of His Beatitude our Patriarch Mar Louis Raphael Sako regarding Chaldean identity and his courageous defense of Christians. We likewise affirm our support for the dioceses that are facing difficulties and express our readiness to assist them.
We call upon everyone to join us in prayer during this Lenten season for peace in our beloved Iraq and throughout the world, and for our Chaldean Church. We also urge all to calm tensions and refrain from spreading false information on social media. We are brothers, united by faith, homeland, and a shared destiny. We must cooperate and respect our identities, deeply rooted in history.
A blessed Lent and a glorious Resurrection to all.
+Bishop Felix Saeed Shabi,
Secretary-General of the Chaldean Synod
