Bartella e Mosul: ancora violenza

La spirale di violenza nella zona di Mosul non si ferma. Come riferisce il sito Ankawa.com, sono giorni che non si hanno notizie di una donna, sposata e madre di cinque figli, rapita nel villaggio di Bartella e per la quale pare sia stato richiesto un ingente riscatto che la famiglia non è in grado di pagare.

Dallo stesso sito la notizia, ancora peggiore, dell'uccisione, a Mosul, di un giovane di 25 anni, Rani Yousif Hanna, che aveva appena lasciato la chiesa assira di Mat Toma e che, sembrerebbe reagendo ad un tentativo di rapimento saebbe stato ucciso a sangue freddo. Nativo di Mosul, Rami era fuggito due anni fa in Siria con la famiglia, era nella città irachena da solo due settimane ed avrebbe dovuto fare ritorno in Siria a breve.

La bara è coperta di fiori ed altri ne vengono lanciati al momento della sua deposizione davanti l’altare. La chiesa è piena di gente, gli uomini nella navata centrale e le donne, come per tradizione, in quelle laterali. Le foto del vescovo adornano le colonne. Tutti sembrano attoniti, i vescovi anziani che tante brutte esperienze hanno avuto nella vita, le decine di giovani sacerdoti,- sembra incredibile quanti siano in una terra dove essere sacerdote è così pericoloso - i fedeli, ed anche i numerosi rappresentanti della comunità musulmana, una macchia bianca - i tipici copricapi - in un mare nero.
Alla parola “Qaddish” – “Santo” salmodiata dai diaconi inizia la cerimonia funebre per Monsignor Faraj Paulus Rahho, rapito a Mosul il 29 febbraio 2008 e fatto ritrovare cadavere ieri nella stessa città.

Ed è con la voce di Monsignor Jacques Isaac in sottofondo che, dopo l'Eucarestia, la bara viene portata a spalle dai sacerdoti - tra essi anche un copto - in tutta la chiesa perchè ognuno, anche nell'angolo più lontano possa vederla, dare l'estremo saluto a Monsignor Rahho. Il giro è lungo, la folla si avvicina troppo, i sacerdoti che la trasportano devono schivare i fiori lanciati dalla gente, l'urlo delle donne segue il ritmo delle preghiere.

Davanti all'altare Mar Emmanuel parla con voce flebile e cede il posto, per la benedizione del feretro a Monsignor Francis Assisi Chullikat, il Nunzio Apostolico, a sugellare la piena unione con la Chiesa di Roma. Un primo piano mostra una donna, il capo velato, che piange sommessamente. Non è la sola. La cerimonia si conclude con la sepoltura di Monsignor Faraj Paulus Rahho in una cappella laterale della chiesa che già accoglie le spoglie mortali di Padre Ragheed Ghanni.

In attesa di una fonte che riporti ufficialmente le parole dell’omelia pronunciate dal Patriarca Emmanuel III Delly che ha officiato il rito con i suoi due vicari di Baghdad, Monsignor Shleimun Warduni e Monsignor Jacques Isaac ricordiamo che Monsignor Rahho era nato a Mosul il 20 novembre del 1942. Era stato ordinato sacerdote nel 1965 e nominato vescovo caldeo di Mosul nel 2001. Incerta invece la data della morte, convenzionalmente stabilita per il 12 marzo 2008 anche se nessuno saprà mai quando, in effetti, Monsignor Rahho è deceduto.

Le donne ai lati delle strade di Karamles piangono e tengono in mano mazzi di fiori colorati mentre almeno dieci uomini portano in spalla la bara di Monsignor Faarj Rahho lungo il percorso del corteo funebre guidato da Monsignor Shleimun Warduni, patriarca vicario di Baghdad e da Monsignor George Qas Musa, vescovo siro cattolico di Mosul, lui stesso, come Monsignor Rahho, vittima di un rapimento nel gennaio 2005 che si risolse però felicemente dopo solo un giorno.

Il silenzio attonito della gente viene interrotto dai canti funebri e dalle urla delle donne che in tutto il mondo arabo, musulmano e cristiano, accompagnano i momenti di gioia ma anche quelli di dolore.

I vescovi tengono tra le mani dei ramoscelli di ulivo ed è con altri ramoscelli che la gente fa il gesto della benedizione verso la bara, mentre un giovane la precede spargendo nell'aria l'odore dolce amaro dell'incenso.

"Ia, Azizi" - "Oh! Mio caro" canta con voce commossa una solista del coro della chiesa di Karamles dove i fedeli stanno attendendo l'inizio della cerimonia funebre. Un giovane soldato, la testa tra le mani, il corpo immobile, è l'immagine di questa dolorosa attesa.

"Stiamo aspettando" dichiara a Baghdadhope Padre Rayan P. Atto, "la bara di Monsignor Rahho è stata portata prima alla chiesa di Mar Ghorghis e poi arriverà qui, in quella di Mar Addai. "

E' a Karamles, circondata e letteralmente blindata dalle forze di sicurezza, irachene, ma anche quelle curde che oggi vi scorteranno i sacerdoti ed i vescovi che vivono in Kurdistan, che si svolgeranno nel primo pomeriggio i funerali di Monsignor Faraj Paulus Rahho.

E' a Karamles che il vescovo sarà seppellito perchè, benchè nato a Mosul, "sarebbe troppo pericoloso andarci" ha dichiarato a Baghdadhope una fonte del patriarcato caldeo.

E' a Karamles che oggi è attesa la chiesa irachena. Dopo un primo momento in cui era stato riferito che il patriarca della chiesa caldea, il Cardinale Emmanuel III Delly, non sarebbe stato presente alla cerimonia ma rappresentato da uno dei vescovi vicari di Baghdad, ieri sera è arrivata invece la conferma della sua presenza.

Per ragioni di sicurezza, ma anche per le ovvie difficoltà di organizzazione che una tale cerimonia comporta non è stata ancora data la lista dei partecipanti. Si può ipotizzare però la presenza dell'intero episcopato caldeo in Iraq, dei vescovi cristiani di Mosul, cattolici e non, e di tutti i sacerdoti, le suore ed i fedeli che riusciranno ad arrivare.

Queste le parole di Matteo lette ieri nella chiesa di Mar Qardagh ad Erbil dove Padre Rayan P. Atto ha guidato le preghiere e la Via Crucis interamente dedicate al ricordo di Monsignor Faraj Paulus Rahho.

A Baghdadhope la testimonianza delle parole che questo giovane parroco ha dedicato a Mons. Rahho, ma soprattutto a tutti gli iracheni cristiani.

"Stiamo vivendo momenti difficili che fanno maturare la nostra fede, tanto forte da farci dare la vita per Cristo. Siamo martiri e testimoni, e se ci chiediamo perchè dobbiamo vivere momenti così tragici la risposta è perché Dio ci ama, perchè attraverso di noi sparge nel mondo il messaggio della fede e della missione. Un messaggio che vogliamo dare a tutti, e specialmente ai giovani, gli stessi giovani con i quali avremmo voluto unirci spiritualmente ieri in occasione dell'incontro a Roma con il Santo Padre che speriamo, noi giovani iracheni cristiani, di incontrare per portargli la nostra testimonianza di fede."

Non spegnete le candele per Monsignor Rahho!

Il sito web h2onews ha messo in rete oggi una notizia ed un video secondo la quale l'iniziativa di accendere una candela per la liberazione di Monsignor Faraj Rahho, lanciata solo due giorni fa, è stata sospesa con il ritrovamento del corpo del vescovo ieri nella periferia di Mosul.
In realtà, al momento stesso dell'annuncio della sua morte Baghdadhope ha invitato i suoi lettori a continuare a farlo per dimostrare che l'affetto, l'attenzione, la partecipazione alla sorte di Monsignor Rahho non sono affatto terminati.
Forse qualcuno può ritenerlo ora inutile ma è anche attraverso esso che si dimostra la volontà di non dimenticare, di essere vicino a chi non c'è più, di dare agli iracheni cristiani quell'attenzione che sempre ci hanno chiesto e ci chiedono.

E' un gesto semplice ma allo stesso tempo forte.

Morte di Mons. Rahho: lacrime e dolore ad Erbil

Per le prime dichiarazioni da parte della gerarchia cattolica sulla morte di Monsignor Faraj Paulus Rahho, Baghdadhope chiede ai suoi lettori di controllare tutti i siti web che in questi tragici giorni hanno seguito gli avvenimenti ed anche quelli cui il destino degli iracheni cristiani interessa solo quando possono attirare i propri lettori con una parola semplice ma scintillante: “Morte”.
Navigando sulla rete ho trovato una notizia che ora, alla luce di ciò che è avvenuto appare tragicamente ironica. La fonte è unica: Washington Times ed è a firma di John Philips. Se non ci sono stati errori di stesura considerate, vi prego, le tre frasi grassettate della mia traduzione confrontandola con la fonte originale che troverete ciccando qui.

Benedetto cerca l’aiuto americano per gli iracheni cristiani

Secondo quanto dichiarato ieri da fonti vaticane, durante la sua prossima visita a Washington Papa Benedetto XVI cercherà l’aiuto di Bush nel fermare la fuga dei cristiani dall’Iraq. Il pontefice tedesco citerà il rapimento dell’Arcivescovo Paulos Faraj Rahho avvenuto nel nord dell’Iraq due settimane fa a testimonianza della sua preoccupazione.

Ai miei occhi esse appaiono come conflittuali tra loro, non è vero? Pensateci, per favore!

Non è con le parole comunque, che oggi come noi mai non riescono a riempire il vuoto nei nostri cuori, la morte di Monsignor Rahho verrà ricordata in Iraq.

E’ con la voce incrinata dal dolore che Padre Rayan Atto, parroco della chiesa caldea di Mar Qardagh ad Erbil, ha dichiarato a Baghdadhope: “Quando è arrivata la notizia stavo per partire con i giovani della mia chiesa per un campo di due giorni che si sarebbe tenuto vicino al monastero di Rabban Buya a Shaqlawa. Volevamo, come già avevamo fatto lo scorso anno, unirci spiritualmente ai giovani che oggi in Piazza San Pietro incontreranno il Santo Padre in preparazione della Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù. Volevamo recitare il rosario e chiedere a Dio la liberazione di Monsignor Rahho. Domani, poi, una Via Crucis ci avrebbe avvicinato alla Pasqua e ci avrebbe ricordato come il rapimento del vescovo fosse avvenuto proprio subito dopo la celebrazione dello stesso rito nella chiesa del Santo Spirito. Nuove violenze in Iraq. Anche oggi si contano diverse vittime, sia civili che militari americani, in attentati avvenuti a Baghdad. Intanto, nella Chiesa cattolica, e non solo, aumenta l’apprensione per la sorte dell'arcivescovo caldeo di Mossul, mons. Faraj Paulos Rahho, rapito nella città irachena lo scorso 29 febbraio da un commando armato. “Non cali il silenzio su questa vicenda” – ribadisce con forza l’arcivescovo di Kirkuk, mons. Louis Sako. Per invocare la liberazione del presule, i caldei in Iraq e della diaspora hanno indetto per oggi una giornata di digiuno e preghiera: a Roma, nel pomeriggio, è prevista la celebrazione di una Messa nella Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, mentre martedì scorso c’è stato un appello di vari leader islamici. Giancarlo La Vella ne ha parlato con don Renato Sacco, di Pax Christi, da poco rientrato dall’Iraq:

Quindici capi islamici hanno condannato questo rapimento ed hanno chiesto la liberazione di mons. Rahho. Il vescovo di Kirkuk chiedeva all’Occidente di impegnarsi a fare qualcosa in più: lo ha chiesto ai governi, ai mass media. Lo ha chiesto anche agli Stati Uniti che di fatto sono responsabili secondo il diritto internazionale anche della sicurezza della popolazione. Bisogna fare in modo che non diventi normale questa situazione, che non diventi normale il rapimento di un vescovo. L'arcivescovo di Kirkuk ha chiesto soprattutto di non rimanere indifferenti e di cercare di fare di tutto. Se posso dire, ho sentito in loro una grande gioia quando qualcuno li chiama, quando qualcuno gli dice di non essere con loro e di non sentirsi soli. Ma li sento anche molto provati, perché quello che sta vivendo mons. Rahho è quello che stanno vivendo anche tante altre persone rapite: l’Iraq è da troppi anni che soffre. Ll’Iraq è da troppi anni che ha il bisogno di trovare una strada di pace. Non dimentichiamo, tra l’altro, che quello che si dice in Italia ed in Occidente viene sentito e rilanciato anche in Iraq. Un appello, quindi, automaticamente ha eco anche in Iraq."

Lei è tornato da poco da una missione nel Paese del Golfo. Si ha la sensazione che le cosa, invece, di migliorare peggiorino di giorno in giorno…

"Il rapimento è diventato quasi una prassi, che viene preceduto dalle minacce; se va in porto c’è la liberazione. Se invece non va in porto si perdono le tracce. Io ho tanti amici che hanno ormai perso le notizie delle persone rapite. Questo è quello che vive tantissima gente. Molti profughi scappano perché hanno ricevuto minacce. Fuggono per evitare rapimenti od uccisioni. Credo che sia davvero una situazione che va peggiorando sempre più. Io sono stato otto volte in Iraq e tutti, ma proprio tutti, dicono che le cose vanno sempre peggio. Come anche il Papa ha ricordato nell’Angelus, questa è una situazione di sofferenza e non secondo la volontà di Dio. Oggi siamo tra l’altro quasi alla ricorrenza dall’anniversario dell’intervento armato (il 19 marzo). Quelli che incontriamo ci dicono che qui va sempre peggio. L’unica prospettiva, l’unica speranza che hanno i giovani è di lasciare il Paese. Noi dobbiamo aiutarli a non avere solo questa prospettiva."

Vescovo rapito Iraq: Mons.Najim (Procuratore caldeo Santa Sede) "Non abbiamo armi"

"L'Iraq è un paese ricco, non ha bisogno di soldi, ha tutto, anche la fede, è il paese di Abramo. Purtroppo il suo popolo continua a soffrire": lo ha detto il procuratore caldeo presso la Santa Sede, mons. Philip Najim, nel corso della messa, oggi a Roma, nella Basilica di santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, celebrata per l’arcivescovo di Mosul, mons. Paulos Faraj Rahho, rapito il 29 febbraio, e chiederne la liberazione.

"Tanti iracheni sono stati costretti a lasciare casa, affetti, lavoro - ha affermato Najim - il nostro Governo è debole preghiamo affinché Dio gli dia la forza di proteggere tutto il popolo". A questa preghiera, il procuratore ha poi aggiunto quella per i rapitori di mons. Rahho, che "il Signore illumini le loro menti e rilascino il nostro amato vescovo" e che possano chiedersi che "Chiesa hanno davanti se ci sono uomini che per essa danno la vita". Chiaro il riferimento ai tre giovani che erano con il vescovo al momento del sequestro e freddati con colpi di arma da fuoco.

"Noi cristiani non abbiamo armi per difenderci - ha proseguito mons. Najim - ma solo la fede e i credenti disposti a donare il sangue per la Chiesa irachena che è viva". "Il nostro Paese - ha concluso - ha bisogno di pace, è responsabilità di tutti, sciiti, sunniti, cristiani, curdi promuoverla attraverso la riconciliazione e l'amore reciproco. Lavoriamo allora per un Iraq forte ed unito, senza violenza, senza interessi di parte". Ad assistere al rito, caldeo in lingua aramaica, anche l'ambasciatore iracheno presso la Santa Sede, Albert Edward Ismail Yelda e il procuratore dei siro-cattolici presso la Santa Sede. “Il governo iracheno – ha dichiarato al Sir l’ambasciatore - condanna con forza il rapimento ed è preoccupato per la condizione dei cristiani iracheni che considera una parte importante del popolo iracheno. Al tempo stesso sta facendo il possibile per ottenere il rilascio di mons. Rahho e sta lavorando per dare garanzie di sicurezza ai cristiani e alle chiese. La situazione è complicata ma il ministero dell’Interno è attivato”. Oggi in tutto l'Iraq sono state celebrate messe per mons. Rahho e i suoi tre giovani.

Oggi pomeriggio alle 16.30 nella chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri a Roma (Via Cernaia 9) Monsignor Philip Najim, Procuratore Caldeo presso la Santa Sede e Visitatore Apostolico in Europa celebrerà una Santa Messa per tutto il clero ed i fedeli caldei presenti a Roma.

In un'intervista a Baghdadhope Monsignor Najim ha dichiarato:"

"Celebreremo una Santa Messa per le anime dei testimoni della fede che in Iraq hanno dato la propria vita per difendere quella del loro vescovo, Monsignor Faraj P. Rahho. Sarà anche un'occasione per elevare la nostra preghiera al Signore perché illumini la mente dei sequestratori ed ispiri loro misericordia nei confronti di un uomo malato, che sempre ha servito la sua chiesa ed il suo paese e che, con la sua stessa presenza a Mosul è stato un segno di unità tra cristiani e musulmani e tra cristiani di diverse chiese in quella città. Un uomo dallo spirito semplice ed allegro che deve far ritorno al più presto tra noi."

Monsignore, quali sono i sentimenti della comunità caldea in questi terribili momenti?

"Siamo tutti dispiaciuti ed amareggiati. Chiediamo pietà per Monsignor Rahho e di avere notizie sul suo stato di salute".
