Mosul: A few hours missing to the expire of the ultimatum

Source: MISNA

“We are still waiting for some news but by now nothing is known about the fate of our two brothers who are still in the hands of their kidnappers.” A few hours are missing to the expire of the ultimatum, and the syriac catholic bishop of Mosul, Mgr. Basel George Casmoussa, confirms to MISNA the absence of any progress in the kidnapping of Fr. Pius Afas and Fr. Mazen Ishoa.
In regard of the declarations made to an Iraqi news website about the “indifference” showed by the government of Baghdad about the fate of the Christians in Iraq, Mgr. Casmoussa, who is is heading the negotiations with the kidnappers, has clarified that it “was not a criticism of the government but a remark of the reality: authorities have a very limited power of control of the territory and cannot guarantee citizens’ protection, whether Christians or Muslims.” According to the information given by the kidnappers to the Archbishop the ultimatum will expire tomorrow morning.”
