“The kidnapping of the two syriac catholic prites in Mosul on October 13 and their release on last Sunday reproposes the topic of security in Iraq and above all of the difficulties the Christian minority is living.”
These are the words of the Auxiliary Bishop of Baghdad, Mgr. Shlemon Warduni. “Security” he says “is the most serious problem in Iraq. This morning I went to the Patriarchate and I am not able to get back home. Check points and closed roads and bridges, I am still desperately try to find a way but with no result. To stay outside is dangerous for bombings and attacks.” To all this it must be added “the lack of electricity, oil and water. People are living an uncomfortable life that only who is living here can understand.” In this situation the appointment of the Chaldean patriarch, Mar Emmanuel III Delly, as a Cardinal is for Mgr. Warduni “an important and strong sign of Pope’s love for the Iraqi population. Even the Government was satisfied with the nomination. All Iraq is in Pope’s heart and this gives us comfort and hope.”
